Whilst gardening this morning I suddenly wondered if JK Rowling writing an episode for Dr Who was already a done deal, rather than just a "I couldn't do it before whilst writing the books but now I've finished writing them I'd be thrilled if I was asked to write a Dr Who episode" sort of thing?
We know JK Rowling is a master(!) at writing about storing parts of your soul in objects (a horcrux) and no one believes that The Master's ring was taken from the pyre just as a keep sake.
So 2+2=5 ?
Plus it would follow the pattern on Dr Who season finales being homages to other popular sci-fi/fantasy stories (Season 2 finale is known as the Will & Lyra ending in our house), and re-using the same end of season baddies.
